Ramayana is the immortal tale of Shri Rama
that teaches us the values of ideology, devotion, duty, relationships, dharma and Karma...The
term “Ramayana”, literally means “the march (ayan) of Rama” in search of human
values..
Unfortunately, we Indians seem to be losing
connect with reality. There are various pulls and pushes which Hindus are
facing within their own country. It is shockingly true that those Hindus who
swear by Hinduism are termed “communal” while those hitting the bottom with appeasement
of minorities are being “termed” Secular
.
While Hindus may be losing touch with reality
of Ram, but, some countries are seriously adopting Ramayana in their
educational and cultural and daily life
.
Communist China’s Universities are teaching Ramayana.
Chinese are now turning to Ramayana to learn Hindi. Never would have the Govt
in India taken such a step should it annoy a section of the minorities.
In
Thai literature, the Ramayana story is called RAMAKIEN.The earliest evidence of
Ramekien
dates back to the 13th century. Some names are kept the same,
but most differ probably due to
the phonetic differences of the language. In
the past 200 odd years the capital of Thailand was AYUTTHAY (AYODHYA), Rama’s Kingdom
in the epic.
The
University of Wyoming's Summer High School Institute (HSI) has started teaching
ancient Hindu scriptures Mahabharata and Ramayana in its Laramie (USA) campus. The
curriculum of this class was titled "The Hindu Epic" which also
includes learning about Hindu gods, Hindu way of worship etc.
Besides,
International Ramayana Institute of North America is contributing towards
learning’s of Ramayana
Ram Setu has been suddenly in news for last four years or so.
Adam’s Bridge (Tamil atam palam)
also known as Rama’s Bridge or Ram Setu( Tamil: ஆதாம் பாலம் ātām pālam) is
a chain of limestone shoals, between Pamban Island, also known as Rameswaram Island...off the South Eastern
coast of Tamil Nadu, India, and Mannar
Island, off the north western coast of Sri
Lanka
Geological
evidence suggests that this bridge is a former land connection between India
and Sri Lanka. While there are evidences in
favour of Ram Setu, there are those in the Indian Govt who submitted an
affidavit to the Apex court in India terming RAM as a “MYTH”. A senior anchor
of a popular English news channel described RAM as “Divine Encroacher”.
Some
political commentators also say that the behaviour of Govt of India is so
considering dredging about Thorium Deposits &
shipping project is an excuse to Mint Money at the Cost of Faith of Millions?
Having said this, there are millions of
Indians, Hindus who swear by Ramayana and follow the teachings of Ramayana.
let us CHANGE INDIA for INDIA OF TOMORROW

Not just in Thailand, but in Cambodia and Indonesia too. We are neglecting it yeah...A friend in Lanka told me thus "Its a tale". I have also read interesting views on Ram.
Tale or not, truth or not; we are secular; so respect it. I wonder if what would happen if such a thing was happening in a minority community in India.
All hell break loose eh?
It is true that Ramayana is considered as a holy Grantha in our country. Lord Ram is worshipped by a majority of Indians. I for one feel that there are cotroversaries which do not change the outlook of many Indians.
There's a sudden revival of interest in our great mythologies. It makes them feel proud to be part of a nation that gave the world so much.
Hi BK,
Wow - that surely is a great write up on Ramayan and Lord Rama. I think the last I remember was reading about it all in the Amar Chitra Katha comics and school of course. There's always so much to learn from other than what meets the eye.
Thanks for sharing :)
With respect to what I understand as your devotion to the icon of Si Rama, let me add that it may not be appropriate to pickle the subject with our beliefs and what we call faith. Indian history and that of medieval India has been documented and noted with empirical evidences but to lend the inviolability of reality to our myth and legends, I feel is not right.
As with Christ whom history documents did exist, one has to take with much salt the biblical stories that are paraded in the name of Christ. Indeed there was a person by the name of Jesus in the then Hebrew land.
I agree with you that Indian version of secularism is pampering the minorities. Unfortunately the political groups who claim to speak for the majority or who claim to represent the majority is doing disservice to the majority by their obscurantism and bigotry. The vote bank speaks finally.
You might remember, that during the Janta party era one O.P.Tyagi of the former Jansangh proposed a bill in parliament proscribing conversion by the lure of money and gratification. This was opposed not only by the religious minorities’ enmasse but by the Congress too.
Leaving those matters, I can imagine the hullabaloo that will come about if Ramayana or Mahabratha are put in the curriculum as papers and works of study. This is where I dissent and protest our lack of appreciation of our past. True these works are perhaps the greatest pieces of story of men and their lives. Much of it is enacted in real time in the present day.
Why is it that Indian universities and places of learning do not figure in the world list of excellence? It is because we refuse to look within and learn from the past.
Our religion is there to stay. Well, Hinduism doesn't compel anybody to follow rules. We can be ourselves. We can be Hindus in our hearts.
interesting and interactive...
sir truth compassion good karma, so many such values..the strength of india lies in its spiritualism..it is a spiritual superpower whatever religion one follows...as the vedas prescribe lets wish all humans peace and prosperity:)
